Kharkiv is the second largest and one of the safest cities in Ukraine.

Known as a student capital, Kharkiv is home to over 30 higher education institutions and more than 20,000 foreign students, making it a land of endless opportunities for higher education seekers of any specialization.

Kharkiv is located in the northeastern part of Ukraine and, thanks to its location, is a major economic, educational, and cultural center. Kharkiv is officially recognized as one of the most comfortable cities to live in the country.

The city of Kharkiv is the administrative center of the historical and geographical region of Ukraine known as Slobozhanshchyna.

The area of modern Kharkiv exceeds 300 square kilometers, and its population is 1 million 450 thousand people. The territory of the city is a hilly plain with valleys, ravines, and other features. The climate is temperate continental: the average annual air temperature is +6.90, the coldest month of the year is January (-6.10), and the warmest is July (+20.50).

Infrastructure

A distinctive feature of Kharkiv is its spacious squares, including the largest in Ukraine and one of the largest in Europe—Freedom Square. It is truly enormous. Concerts, flash mobs, festivals, and sporting events are regularly held here. Every winter, the square is adorned with a New Year’s tree, a fairy-tale town, and a free open-air skating rink. In 2008, a record number of people in the band’s history – over 300,000 – heard and saw the legendary band Queen live on this square.

Trolleybuses, trams, minibuses, comfortable buses, and three metro lines connect different parts of the city. An electronic ticketing system has been introduced in public transport. Even from remote areas, it takes no more than 40 minutes to reach the city center, the railway station, the bus station, and the airport by public transport.

Intercity and international connections

Trains from Kharkiv can take you to any point in the country overnight.

Kharkiv Airport is the largest in Eastern Ukraine, with a passenger traffic of about 1 million passengers. Airlines such as UIA, Turkish Airlines, Pegasus Airlines, LOT, Belavia, AZUR air Ukraine, Bravo Airways, Ellinair, UmAir, Wizz Air, and Yanair operate here. This modern, compact airport hub with affordable services, electric vehicle charging stations, and long-term parking was included in the list of the best European airports in 2016 by the international council ACI EUROPE.
